New Canaan 250th Celebration
Important Updates for the 4th of July Fireworks
The New Canaan 4th of July Fireworks Committee is excited to celebrate this special year with the community as part of New Canaan’s 250th anniversary festivities!
As families begin making plans for the holiday, we want to share a few important updates for this year’s fireworks event. Please note the scheduled rain dates are July 5 and July 11.
Updated Fireworks Layout
This year, the fireworks launch platform has been moved farther away from Lapham Road. The new setup is designed to improve traffic flow and make exiting Waveny Park faster and more efficient, allowing vehicles to leave via Lapham Road in either direction.
An updated event map is also available, including suggested viewing areas and optimal blanket placement for families planning their evening.
Parking Information & Town Alerts
Last year, parking at Waveny Park reached capacity by approximately 6:30 PM. Because this year’s event is expected to draw even larger crowds for the 250th celebration, parking may fill earlier.
Families are encouraged to register for the Town alert system through newcanaan.info. Alerts will notify attendees when parking areas are full so visitors can proceed directly to alternate parking locations instead of being turned away at the gate.
New Sensory Care Zone
A new Sensory Care Zone will be available this year on the New Canaan High School soccer fields. This area is intended for anyone who would enjoy viewing the fireworks in a quieter, less overwhelming setting.
We hope this space will be especially helpful for individuals with sensory sensitivities, members of the Staying Put community, and families looking for a more comfortable viewing experience.
Passes & Additional Information
Information about fireworks passes, parking, event updates, and more can all be found on the Town’s 4th of July Fireworks page at newcanaan.info under the Community tab.
We look forward to celebrating together and making this year’s 250th celebration a memorable event for the entire community!
Ben Young All-Sports Camp
Various Weeks in June & July
Camp Overview: The Ben Young All-Sports Camp is entering its 12th year, and there will be four separate, one week, 9 AM-12 PM sessions at New Canaan High School between 6/22-6/26, 6/29-7/3, 7/6-7/10, and 7/13-7/17. This camp is designed for students in (rising) grades K-8, but they do welcome all children turning five this calendar year, and the program strives to get children active in an inclusionary and positive environment where they can take part in fun sports and games. Activities vary from basketball, soccer, tennis, and baseball, to capture the flag, four-square, cornhole, relays, etc., and there are some water activities too. (Over twenty different sports/games will be played each week!) Also, this camp features an incredible crew of certified teachers and high school/college counselors that are all highly charismatic, mature, nurturing, and responsible, and they each genuinely enjoy being with children. (There are 4 certified teachers and over 100 students on staff!)
Background: Ben grew up in New Canaan, going through the public school system here, and graduated from Bucknell University, where he was a 2-year Co-Captain of their Division I tennis team. This is now Ben’s 18th year at Saxe, and he absolutely loves being a 7th grade language arts teacher and a member/advisor of numerous clubs and committees. Additionally, Ben is the proud Head Coach of the recent State Champion Boys Varsity Tennis Team.
Registration is open, but please contact ben.young@ncps-k12.org if you have additional questions!
