Join Cub Scouts Pack 70 New Canaan: Camping, Hiking, Gaga Ball & More!

 

East Elementary Parents: Uncle Sam wants you to sign your boys up for Pack 70 New Canaan!

We're New Canaan's biggest and oldest cub scout pack. We keep your active boys busy all year long with camping, hiking, pinewood derbies, service opportunities, gaga ball, rafting adventures, picnics, bonfires, rocketry, summer activities, outdoor skills, and more! Pack 70 meets on the 3rd Monday of each month 5:30-7:00pm at St. Marks Church in New Canaan.

Come down the hill and join other enthusiastic kids as our expert staff lead a variety of winter-themed adventures throughout the 40-acre expanse of NCNC. Calling all students in grades K-2! Registration for the Winter Session of the NCNC After School Program is rolling. Sign up today to join the fun!

Registration for the Spring Session of the NCNC After School Program will officially open on February 12th for program dates of April 22 – June 7.

Don’t get stuck indoors after school! Instead create hypotheses, conduct experiments, and get ready for some awesome hands-on collaborative learning by joining us for the NCNC After School Program. Delve into fun and engaging weekly themes while exploring our natural world. Who knows what we will discover!

This year your child will:
• Make REAL maple syrup (from tapping a tree to collecting sap! And from boiling down to sampling the delicious finished product!)
• Become a nature detective
**Identify tracks & trails in the snow & mud, study signs of spring, visit our ponds & vernal pools; search for baby animals in the fields & forests.
• Identify birds that are migrating back to Connecticut after the long winter
• Meet live animals from the NCNC animal ambassador collection

MANY STORIES, ONE NEW CANAAN

 

Calling kids & teens between the ages of 5-18! Celebrate the art of storytelling and the many voices that bring stories to life in New Canaan and beyond with a monthlong Winter Reading Challenge, running January 28 through March 2. Log your reading and complete activity challenges with New Canaan Library to earn buttons and a special prize. Join your librarians throughout the month for writing, crafting, and STEM programs to unlock your creativity. MANY STORIES, ONE NEW CANAAN will culminate in a special author panel on Saturday, March 2, at 3 p.m., featuring Newbery Medal winner Jerry Craft, Newbery Honor winner Veera Hiranandani, and acclaimed authors Debbi Michiko Florence and Ryan Maloney. Last Saturday on the Trail: Ribbit Rhapsody

 

Join Sarah Breznen, the Director of Education at the Woodcock Nature Center, for a spring amphibian walk!

Walk the trail at Still Pond to the chorus of wood frogs and spring peepers. Learn about the amphibians native to our area, the ecology of ponds, and how to keep water and wetlands healthy for our amphibian friends.

New Canaan Land Trust Winter Hiking Challenge

 

We challenge you to visit 7 New Canaan Land Trust preserves, plus Bristow Bird Sanctuary in Mead Park, and complete 8 hikes this winter!

Our preserves have much to offer year-round. Enjoy the fresh air, spot local wildlife, get your steps in, and ring in the New Year with 8 fantastic hikes.

ALL participants are eligible for the following prizes. You DO NOT need to be a member to be eligible for the following:
- Visit 4 properties and receive a New Canaan Land Trust swag
- Visit all 8 properties and receive swag, certificate of completion, AND be entered into a raffle to win a $250 gift card to Outdoor Sports Center in Wilton!

YOUTH SPORTS INJURY PANEL

 

Parents and Teens, join us at New Canaan Library as Paul Tomaszewski, MD and Tom Hobson, DPT speak on ACL injuries, shoulder injuries and the importance of dynamic warmups. The physicians will speak first and then there will be time for a Q&A.

Swiftie Dance Clinic for Kids Ages 6-11

 

Calling all kids ages 6-11: Join the Swiftie Dance Clinic! This exciting six-week program is designed for kids who love Taylor Swift's music. The classes blend jazz and hip-hop styles and are designed for dancers of all skill levels to learn choreography and dance to their favorite songs! There are classes offered in two age groups (6-8 and 9-11) on Saturdays from March 2 to April 6, 2024, at HALO in New Canaan.
